Alberta Basic Security Training

All applicants for a security workers licence in Alberta must successfully complete a mandatory training course or provide proof of equivalent training to qualify for a licence.  This training applies to the following licence classes:

  • Security Service Workers

  • Executive Protection Workers

  • Loss Prevention Workers

  • Patrol Dog Handlers

  • Security Alarm Responders

 5 Days

Design and Deliver Effective Training

 2 Days

This exciting two-day workshop is fully interactive and provides a step-by-step process to design and deliver effective training!

 

Using a variety of tools and techniques, teams will prepare a group presentation to be delivered at the end of the workshop.  Participants will develop and deliver a Training Action Plan, apply effective facilitation techniques and give and receive both group and personal feedback in a safe and supportive learning environment!

Diversity and Cultural Competence

 1 Day

The modern workplace is a cultural mosaic and there are significant diversity issues that can cause stress and conflict, but they don’t have to!This workshop will explore the concepts of diversity, equity and inclusion, and examine the dynamics of culture as it relates to communication, conflict, power and organizations.

 

Participants will use a variety of practical strategies and tools to help recognize the benefits of diversity, deal with tensions constructively and build understanding across difference.This expanded cultural competence will help to foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels respected and valued for their unique contributions in the workplace.

Mental Health and Emotional Wellness

 0.5 Day

This session focuses on understanding the Alberta Mental Health Act and how it impacts the rights of individuals, the stigma of mental illness, and several aspects of wellness including sleep, diet and stress management.

N95 Mask Fit Testing

20 Minutes per Participant

This protocol is conducted to verify that a user can correctly select and fit a respirator; obtain an effective seal and test it prior to entering a contaminated environment.  This skill is especially critical in the healthcare field, where people are exposed to a wide variety of viruses and, properly used, masks can effectively protect them against airborne particulates. 

 

All relevant documentation will be provided, in compliance with NIOSH guidelines and standards.

Non-violent Crisis Intervention

1.5 Days

​A program which starts by teaching participants to identify the stages of a crisis. They will then build the skills required to intervene in disruptive incidents in a way that prevents escalation and provides for the Care, Welfare Safety and Security of all who are involved in a crisis situation.

Progressive Discipline

1 Day

The Progressive Discipline training workshop provides information that will assist Managers in understanding the value of Progressive Discipline and confidently executing the process in both union and non-union environments.

 

Using a variety of exercises, tools and templates, participants will learn how to investigate, document and deliver Progressive Discipline to address unacceptable workplace performance early, before poor work or behaviour becomes a habit or escalates out of control!

Report Writing

0.5 Day

In this half-day workshop, we focus on accurate and detailed documentation, which is a legal record and a permanent reflection of the officer’s professionalism and commitment.  The resulting reports will be clear, concise, easily read, timely and complete.

Street Safety

Lunch 'n' Learn

Conveniently delivered in a ‘Lunch ‘n’ Learn’ format, this is an exciting and thought-provoking program that will have participants analyzing their fears, anxieties, confidence and capabilities in ways they never have before!

 

Participants will gain knowledge and skills to help identify potential violence and proactively manage situations with clarity and composure.  They will leave with an effective safety strategy for work, home and in the community.

Tactical Communication

1 Day

Customer service is about human interaction and solving problems.  Often this is in very stressful situations with people who are, in general, becoming angrier and more challenging.

 

 

Through ‘Tactical Communication’ employees will learn to effectively read situations and defuse them BEFORE they escalate into unmanageable verbal abuse or violent physical altercations.  If managers want to increase their competitive edge, they must build a workforce that can provide superior customer service in the most difficult of circumstances, and is inspired to do so consistently.  Start today!

Verbal Judo

2 Days

A communication method of gaining cooperation and compliance, used by law enforcement organizations throughout North America.  This is a conflict management process that will teach participants to engage others through empathy, treat all people with dignity and respect, and be better prepared in all verbal encounters, whether they are on the street, at home, or in the boardroom!

Workplace Violence

0.5 Day

Workplace violence can range from harassment to threats, intimidation, verbal abuse physical assault and even homicide.  We will begin by discussing the fact that workplace violence is not random; it is a process that is observable and predictable.  The focus will be on pre-emption and education of the workforce as well as empowering employees to identify clues that will help them intervene in a way that prevents escalation of the incident and focuses on the safety of all involved.

2 Days

If someone in your workplace sprained their wrist, chances are you’d know what to do.  If they have a panic attack, chances are you won’t.
